The decision to buy the 8240XL shaver was a long and tiring one. It actually started 21 years ago, when I shaved for the first time. Back in those days, I didn't even know what it looked like to shave with a blade.
My father, you see, had always used an electric shaver. Nothing like the 8240XLmind you.
Back then, electric shavers were loud and monsterous things. My dad had an old Sunbeam that sounded, and cut, like a lawnmower. Needless to say, compared to those dinosaurs, the Philips Norelco 8240XL would have been something out of Star Wars!
So, I followed his lead, and got a Sunbeam for my 16th birthday. I used it until college, but it had definitely outlived it's usefulness. I got a terrible case of face "rot", which is that nasty neck rash that is so common to guys that shave with electric razors.
When my girlfriend at the time commented on my perpetual neck rash, I threw my Sunbeam in the trash. That was my last electric shaver until the 8240XL O.k., you did the math. I have shaved with a blade for about 17 years.
Why then, you may ask, did I switch back to the 8240XL?

My experience with blade shaving had many "bumps" in the road. In the earlier days, before technology improved the quality of disposable razors, I would nick myself to death!
Sometimes, my wife thought I had been in a fight, for all the blood and gore in the bathroom! Now, each time I shave with my 8240XL I wonder how it was possible that I would put up with all those nicks and cuts.
Recently, I had grown extremely weary with how time consuming shaving with a blade had become. I am in sales, and I always have meetings to catch, and appointments to keep. Also, because I have a heavy beard, I would have to shave TWICE a day on days where I had important appointments!

Finally, a client of mine mentioned that he had bought a brand new electric shaver. He said it was a Norelco model, the 8240XL. He swore that the Philips Norelco 8240XL gave him the closest and smoothest shave of his life!
And, he could give himself a full shave in about 7 minutes! It usually took me about 11 minutes with a blade to get a complete shave.
