My first impression of the 8240XL, actually included it's elaborate packaging. I mean to tell you, you really had to WANT that shaver to get through the thick plastic that incased it! I risked life and limb, and eventually hacked through it to secure my prize.

When I looked at the Philips Norelco 8240XL, I was stunned at how "cool" it looked! My old Sunbeam had virtually no style, certainly nothing like this space age little dude! it reminded me of some kind of teeny tiny spaceship.

I was a little disappointed to discover that I had to charge the Philips Norelco 8240XL up for about 12 hours before I could shave with it. So naturally, because I was anxious to try it out, I plugged it in to the nearest socket.

According to the manual, a charge should last about 17 shaves. That figure, it seems to me, is pretty arbitrary, and is more of a "guess." However, I have discovered that when I charge my 8240XL, I shave for about two weeks before I have to charge it again.

The really remarkable thing about the 8240XL is how quiet it is. It is almost weird how quiet it is! My old Sunbeam was so loud that you couldn't even have a conversation while shaving,(not that I am a great conversationalist while I am shaving, anyway).

The Philips Norelco 8240XL is really quite powerful, and cuts through my thick stubble like a knife through butter. But, you would really think that a shaver this powerful would be louder.

The only way I can describe shaving with this beauty, is to say that it feels like it is "sliding" across my face! No hint of dragging AT ALL! With my "Paul Bunyanesque" beard, that is really saying something.

The !Philips Norelco 8240XLdoesn't miss a spot, either! I almost never have to go over the same spot twice. Even shaving with a new blade, I would have to go over my chin at least twice! The 8240XL has a "pivoting" head, so it hugs the contours of your face.
